Today I went into the salon to enquire & book outflow daughters in for a hair cut. A stylist came over (guy) to help but he wasn’t really paying attention. Another lady came over & was more helpful. Upon booking I was told I needed to pay the full £90 to secure the booking. I wasn’t happy I had to pay in full for a deposit nor before the service had been completed. Let’s be clear happy to pay a deposit but this should be £10 for a cutting service. I was advised they couldn’t change the deposit amount & I had to pay for it otherwise the appointment wouldn’t be secure meaning the appointment would be given to another customer. Considering the salon had two clients in when we arrived they were hardly struggling for appointments as I was offered appointments for today. I decided to cancel & asked for my appointment to be cancelled. I explained I wasn’t happy paying for the service in full & a deposit is not full payment it’s a small fee proportion of the service booked. I left & as I was walking away the guy called me back in - miraculously they could override the deposit to only charge me £45 (50%). I could do this via Apple Pay but they were quick to get the card machine out. I said I would pay via Apple Pay to which they were surprised I could. Upon leaving I wasn’t convinced of the service I would receive so I did not pay the revised deposit & I cancelled the appointments. Again I will be clear I know what a deposit is for & I am not disputing that. No one should have to pay for any service up front before they have received it. A small deposit should only be required for a cut only service - I have been to another salon which is on the same level as Chop Chop to which they only require a £6 deposit purely to secure the appointment. First impressions mean everything especially in a salon.
